“Suffragette (#2313)”


Representative of the first wave of feminism in the nineteenth and early twentieth century: women’s suffrage, the struggle for the right to vote. Feminism encapsulates various movements, theories and philosophies, as pertaining to issues of gender inequality, race and human rights. The visible bra is a reference to the later second (1960s–1970s) and third (1990s to the present) waves of feminism. Contrary to popular opinion bras were not burnt in the name of women’s rights during the Miss America protest of September 7, 1968. …, —
